The Alethean Review is currently open for submissions! We welcome poetry, short fiction, critical essays, and reviews through July 31, with our first issue set to publish in October 2026.

INAUGURAL ISSUE THEME: RECLAMATION

We welcome work that understands reclamation as the act of taking back what was lost, silenced, denied, buried, or stolen in whatever form that takes. Internally, bodily, mentally, culturally, globally, historically—you name it. Intentionally expansive, we can’t wait to see what you bring!

Before You Submit

Here’s the tea on what to know before sending your work:

Publication schedule: The Alethean Review publishes twice yearly, in April and October

Submission period:

October Issue: May 1 through July 31

April Issue: November 1 through January 1

Genres: Poetry, fiction, essays, and reviews

Submission Fee: None

Simultaneous submissions: Yes, but please mention this in your cover letter if you are submitting elsewhere. If part or all of your submission is accepted elsewhere, please notify us immediately via our Contactform.

Previously published work: Not at this time.

Response time: Within 90 days of submission date. If you do not receive a response in 120 days, please notify us through our Contact form. Only submit once per reading period.

Payment: We are unable to provide contributor payment at this time, but we do spotlight our contributors and their work in our newsletter and on social media.

Submission method: Online Submission form

Formatting and Other Submission Requirements by Genre

    • Submit 3-5 poems in a single document—no more than 10 pages.

    • 12pt font in Times New Roman

    • Only one poem per page.

    • 1.15 spacing is preferred, but not required. Single-spaced submissions are fine!

    Do not include AI-generated work, in part or in full.

    • Submit one fiction piece 1,000-2,500 words in a single document.

    • Use 12pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced.

    • If accepted, editors may send you edit requests.

      • If no response is provided within one business week of request, your piece can be subject to removal.

    Do not include AI-generated work, in part or in full.

    • Please send us 3-5 pitches in a single document.

    • Place each pitch on a new page.

    • We may request you provide links to any previous relative writing samples if we enjoy your pitch(s) before making a final determination.

    Please note: If accepted, we do prefer AP style. This can be further addressed upon acceptance, and we’re happy to help steer you in the right direction.
